The book of Philippians has some of the most memorable and most often quoted one-liners in the Bible. “I can do all things through him who gives strengthens me.” “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” But unless we know the context of why Paul wrote these words, we’ll misunderstand what he was trying to communicate to the believers in Philippi and to us as modern readers.
